Education
Doctorate of Physical Therapy, University of Michigan-Flint (2013)
Bachelor of Science, Central Michigan University (2008)
Hi, I’m Dr. Jessica Smith, PT, DPT — a pediatric physical therapist and a mom who truly understands the joys and challenges of caring for little ones.
Originally from Michigan, my family and I found our forever home here in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 2018. I’ve been working with children for 14 years across many wonderful pediatric settings. I’m happily married and the proud mom to two energetic kids, Colton and Evelyn. In my free time, you’ll often find me doing art projects, building blanket forts, painting, exploring the outdoors, traveling to visit family, or staying active in our church community.
When my son was born, I walked through the same worries many of you face — torticollis, plagiocephaly from breech positioning, breastfeeding struggles, reflux, body tension, and limited tummy time tolerance. That deeply personal experience changed everything about how I practice. It gave me a heartfelt understanding of what families really need.
Today, I’m blessed to blend my clinical expertise with real-life mom insights. I offer gentle, one-on-one in-home care that helps reduce your worries and allows you to truly enjoy this precious time with your baby. My focus is on supporting infants from birth through the walking stage, with special attention to torticollis, head shape concerns, tummy time tolerance, body tension, and gross motor milestones.
I take a whole-body, collaborative approach because I believe every baby deserves to feel comfortable and confident in their body. To further my impact as an infant PT and my ability to function as a member of a treatment team, I have education in lactation, recognition of TOTs (tethered oral tissues), and oral motor support.
I’m truly honored to partner with you and your family on this journey.
Additional Qualifications & Training
Total Motion Release
TMR-Tots levels 1-3, I’m proudly trained in Total Motion Release (TMR-Tots), a gentle, tear-free approach to addressing postural asymmetries such as torticollis. What I love most about TMR-Tots is how kind and effective it is for babies. Instead of forcing traditional stretches, this whole-body technique helps release tension patterns throughout your little one’s body in a way that feels comfortable and natural. Babies often relax and even enjoy the process! Because it looks at the entire body rather than just the tight area, I see faster, more lasting improvements in head position, movement, and overall comfort. This training has become one of my favorite tools to help babies move with greater ease and joy.
Trained with Susan Vaughan Kratz on infant bodywork utilizing craniosacral and myofascial release techniques using "just the right touch" to make your baby feel good in their body.
Completed 33.5 hours of infant-specific, lactation-focused continuing education in oral motor and tethered oral tissues coursework in:
Supporting Oral Motor Skills in the Infant;
Bodywork for Better Breastfeeding;
Tongue Ties, Breastfeeding and the Lactation Savvy Therapist;
Torticollis, Tongue Tie, and Infant Feeding using a whole-body approach.
Trained with Dr. Cynthia Peterson to learn techniques and treatment approaches that prioritize healthy breathing and orofacial development from birth.
